SOLVANG / SANTA YNEZ VALLEY, Santa Barbara County — Thursday, October 22, 2026. The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office kept a Flood Watch in effect across the Santa Ynez Valley and other Santa Barbara County zones through Thursday afternoon, warning that thunderstorms and heavy rain could produce runoff and localized flooding.

The advisory was continued in a bulletin issued at 8:52 p.m. Wednesday, October 21. Covered areas include the Santa Ynez Valley, coastal parts of Santa Barbara County and its mountain ranges. The NWS specifically named Solvang, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Lake Cachuma, Gaviota, Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito and Carpinteria among covered communities or landmarks.

EVENING WEATHER UPDATE · October 22, 2026

NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard reconfirmed the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County Flood Watch at 3:47 p.m., with expiration at 6 p.m. Thursday. At an evening publication time after 6 p.m., treat that watch as time-limited or expired unless NWS issues a replacement; do not imply it remains active without a new statement. How intense could rainfall become?

The NWS warned that localized rain rates could reach 0.50 to 1.00 inch per hour, which can quickly overwhelm poor drainage and contribute to street, creek and river flooding. The watch is a statement of risk, not a verified record of flooding at every location.

Why do residents need to check local conditions?

Conditions vary between valley bottoms, mountain passes and coastal roadways. Monitor the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard weather updates, local officials and Caltrans QuickMap for specifically recorded road restrictions. Do not cross water-covered roads; fast-moving water may hide a washed-out pavement or crossing.

Is this another power outage like those reported on October 21?

This NWS Flood Watch does not announce an electricity outage in Solvang. Southern and Central California have experienced separate storm-related utility incidents this week, including those tracked by Shandon News, but another county’s outage does not prove that Solvang customers lost power.
